RFQ / Order Documentation

Quotation requests and orders must be accompanied by documentation that defines the board to be tested.   There are three general areas of needed information; board documentation, device documentation, and sample boards.

The items needed, when they are needed and why they are needed can be somewhat confusing.   The following table is intended to clarify these documentation requirements.

Board Documentation

Needed For

ITEM

DESCRIPTION Quote Test Dev.
Schematics The Schematic is used for circuit description entry, to determine testability, and for program and fixture debug. YES YES
Assembly Drawing An assembly drawing showing the component layout is needed to identify fixture design considerations and to locate probe points. YES

see
note 1

YES
PCB Drawing The PCB drawing should show dimensions and hole locations.  It is used for reference.   It can often provide answers pertaining to the boards physical characteristics. YES

note 2

YES

see
note 2

Parts List The bill of materials (BOM) should show component reference designators, values, tolerances, and commercial part numbers for all devices. YES YES
Cad File(s) Cad files can be either a single or a multiple of output files depending on the cad system used.   The Cad file contains identity and coordinates of components, pins, pads, required vias and signal lists.   This file is used to generate the in-circuit input files.      See CAD Files YES

Device Documentation

DESCRIPTION Quote Test Dev.
Data Sheets Data Sheets describe the operation of devices installed on the circuit board.   They are used to create test vectors for custom devices, if vector testing is preferred by the customer. NO

see
note 1

YES
PLD Files These files are programmable logic device files.   They are required to generate test vectors if vector testing is preferred by the customer.   Required PLD files will be specifically identified by TSS at the time of quotation. NO YES
BSDL Files Boundary Scan Description Language files are required if boundary scan testing is preferred by the customer.   They are usually available from the World Wide Web site of the device manufacturer. NO YES
ISP Files In System Programming files allow tests to be developed that program ISP capable PLDs and FLASH memory devices.   Required ISP files will be specifically identified by TSS at the time of quotation. NO YES

Sample Boards

Bare Board An unpopulated board is used for reference.   It can help to determine probe locations and fixture damming.   It can be used for digitizing when drill files are not available.   It can often resolve questions pertaining to the schematic. NO

see
note 2

YES

see
note 2

Assembled Board Five known good populated boards (one is the minimum requirement) should be provided.   The board(s) should be mechanically and electrically correct and agree with the other provided documentation.   The board(s) are used for fixture layout and debug of both the program and the fixture. NO

YES

Notes

1)  The quote can be prepared without this item.   However the quote can be prepared more quickly and accurately if this item is available.

2)  This item can be considered to be insurance as it may solve problems or provide answers to questions that would otherwise cause delays.   It may never be needed, but it is prudent to provide if available.

3)  The absence of this item can have significant impact on cost and delivery.   The test can be developed without this item, but it should be made available if at all possible.
